Desk Volunteers

Trained Desk Volunteers are an integral part of our program. Volunteers are needed on an ongoing basis, every day, at all of our houses.

Shifts take place: 10 am – 2 pm | 2 – 6 pm | 6 – 9 pm

Volunteers register and check-out families, answer telephones, give House tours and assist in the day-to-day operation of the House. Volunteers must have the ability to communicate compassionately to children and adults. A primary quality is the ability to be a good, understanding listener as parents may need to share the burden of their child’s hospitalization. Good telephone and organizational skills are important. We have a specific need for volunteers who speak Spanish. You can volunteer as an individual, or as a couple with a spouse or friend.

This volunteer program is for those who can commit to a minimum of two four-hour shifts per month in the above capacity.

Housewarmers

Trained Housewarmer Volunteers assist with all things kitchen related. Shifts take place throughout the week: 10a-2p | 5-8p.

Volunteers assist with putting away meals, stocking pantry items, sorting food donation items, and cleaning food surfaces. They can also assist with preparing lunch and dinner meals with on hand items and leftovers. No previous cooking experience required!

Pickup Volunteers

Currently in need!

Pickup volunteers use their personal vehicles to get needed resources to our families. Items vary from snack bags donated by corporate offices to pizza from a local restaurant. These volunteers help ensure that families have the food and amenities they need during their stay.

Volunteers must have their own transportation. Training is flexible and takes place prior to beginning service. Time commitments can vary, but please be available for at least two pickups per month.

Pet Therapy

Please contact our Volunteer Services to see if your pet is qualified to be a RMHC service animal. Pets spend time playing with kids at our East House in St. Petersburg. This is a favorite activity for many of our families! Certifications we accept Alliance of Therapy Dogs, Project Pup, and Pet Partners.
